How to remove tashkeel from Arabic text

  1. Paste the Arabic text with diacritics into the Your text box.
  2. Read the plain version in the Result panel; it updates as you type or edit.
  3. Check the Words and Lines counts under the result to confirm the text is complete.
  4. Select Copy result to copy the text without diacritics to your clipboard.

When to remove Arabic diacritics

  • A researcher copying vowelled text from a classical book or a Quran website so it can be searched and matched in a database or document.

Which marks does the tool remove?

It removes all harakat: fatha, damma, kasra, sukun, shadda, the three forms of tanween and the superscript (dagger) alef. It also removes Quranic annotation signs such as the small pause (waqf) marks and the end-of-verse sign.

Does it remove tatweel or change any letters?

No. Tatweel (ـ), letters with hamza such as أ and ئ, alef wasla (ٱ) and taa marbuta all stay as they are. To remove tatweel use the Remove Tatweel tool, and to unify letter forms use the Arabic Text Normalizer.

Can removing tashkeel make a word ambiguous?

Yes. The letters do not change, but words that differ only in their vowels, such as عَلِمَ and عِلْم, look identical afterwards. Keep the original vowelled copy wherever exact pronunciation matters.
