How to count the words in a text

  1. Paste your text into the Your text box, or start typing in it.
  2. Read the Words total in the Result panel; it updates with every change you make.
  3. Check Characters, Characters without spaces, Sentences and Paragraphs below it if your limit is set in one of those.
  4. Edit the text in the box until it fits your target, or select Clear to start again with another text.

When a word count matters

  • A student keeping an essay or scholarship statement within the required word limit.
  • A blogger checking that an article is long enough before publishing it.
  • A translator or copywriter quoting a job that is priced per word.
  • A speaker trimming a speech or video script to fit a fixed time slot.

The counter uses Unicode-aware word segmentation where the browser supports it, with a safe fallback for Arabic and English text.

Word Counter: frequently asked questions

Does the word counter count Arabic words correctly?

Yes. It uses your browser's Unicode word segmentation, so a word with attached letters such as و or ال counts as one word, and diacritics (tashkeel) do not split a word in two.

What counts as a word?

Any run of letters or digits separated by spaces or punctuation counts as one word, so a number like 2026 is one word and a contraction like don't is one word. A hyphenated term such as e-mail counts as two, and a و written on its own with a space after it counts as a separate word.

Is there a maximum text length?

Yes. The counter accepts up to 200,000 characters and 20,000 lines at once. Longer text shows a message asking you to shorten it, so count a very long document in parts.

Is my text uploaded or saved?

No. The words are counted by your browser on your own device, and the text you paste is not sent to Rabetly or stored. Closing or refreshing the page clears it.
