Compress PDF

Upload a PDF and the compressor rewrites its internal structure and clears nonessential metadata to make the file smaller without touching how the pages look. Text stays sharp and searchable because pages are never turned into images. You see the original size, the new size and the percentage saved before you download.

Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to our server.

When a lossless PDF compressor helps

  • An office worker trimming a long text-based report exported from Word before attaching it to an email.
  • A freelancer cleaning author and title metadata out of a contract PDF before sharing it with a client.
  • A student checking whether a thesis PDF can drop under a submission portal's size limit without blurring its text.

How this tool works

The tool rewrites PDF objects and removes nonessential metadata while preserving text and vector content. It does not silently rasterize searchable pages, so savings depend on the original file.

Example

Upload a PDF with redundant structure, then compare the original and downloaded file sizes before deciding whether to keep it.

Compress PDF: frequently asked questions

Does compressing a PDF reduce its quality?

No. The tool does not rasterize pages or re-encode images, so text, vector graphics and photos look exactly as before, and text remains selectable and searchable.

Will my PDF always get smaller?

No. Savings depend on the original file; PDFs with redundant structure shrink, while image-heavy or already optimized PDFs may barely change. If the Saved figure shows 0%, keep your original.

What does the compressor remove from my PDF?

It clears the title, author, subject, keywords and creator fields and saves the document with compact object streams. Pages, page order and visible content are not changed.

Is my PDF uploaded to compress it?

No. Compression happens locally in your browser, and the file is not sent to our server. A PDF can be up to 80 MB and 500 pages, and password-protected files are not supported.
