When to use a percentage calculator

  • A shopper working out 15% of a 240 price to see how much a sale saves.
  • A teacher turning 42 correct answers out of 50 into a score of 84%.
  • A business owner measuring the percentage increase in sales from last month to this month.
  • An employee checking how much a 7% raise adds to a monthly salary.

How this calculator works

Rabetly uses deterministic decimal-safe calculations. General calculators stay local to your browser. Regulated calculators use a versioned public rule pack and state their eligibility assumptions rather than making a personal legal determination.

Example

For a loan, enter the amount financed, annual rate, and term to see a monthly payment, total paid, and total finance cost. For a regulated calculator, first read the source and scope note before entering your details.

Percentage Calculator: frequently asked questions

How do I calculate percentage increase or decrease?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. In Percentage change mode, an old value of 80 and a new value of 100 give 25%, while 100 to 80 gives -20%, a decrease.

How do I find what percent one number is of another?

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. Choose What percentage is one number of another?, enter 45 as Part and 60 as Whole, and the result is 75%.

How are the results rounded, and what can I enter?

Results are rounded to two decimal places, with halves rounded away from zero. Inputs may have up to two decimal places, percentages up to 10,000% are accepted, negative numbers are not, and in the share and change modes both values must be above zero.

Can I type Arabic numerals?

Yes. Arabic-Indic digits such as ٤٥ and the Arabic decimal separator are converted automatically, and commas or spaces used as thousands separators are ignored.
